Dr. Ger Zielinski lectures and writes on queer cinema and critical new media at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. He received his PhD from McGill University, where he researched the history and cultural politics of LGBT film festivals. He co-founded the research hub Film and Media Festivals Scholarly Interest Group in the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) and directs the Toronto Film and Media Festivals Research Group. He has been a visiting researcher or scholar at several institutions, including the Institut für Europäische Ethnologie at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and the Center for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University, and has received funding from agencies, such as the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), Canada Council for the Arts, Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). 
Dr. Zielinski is the principal investigator of his two-year SSHRC Insight Development Grant “Buffering Online and Off: On Streaming Platforms, Creators, and the Turn to Embodied Festivality.”
